Fenton is located in Michigan with most of the city located in Genesee County with small parts located in the neighboring counties of Oakland and Livingston. Fenton was first established in 1834. The city’s original name was Dibbleville, after Clark Dibble who was one of the first settlers. In 1837, the city was named Fentonville by Willam M. Fenton who later became the lieutenant-governor of Michigan. It was called Fentonville from 1837 until 1886 when it adopted the current name, Fenton.
